Boylston
founded 1786
Boylston was originally
the Second Parish of Shrewsbury, which formed in 1743 and hired
Ebinezer Morse as its first minister. Morse was a Harvard scholar
who studied law in Worcester and was also well-read in medicine.
He served not only as the town's spiritual leader but was also
a political force. The town broke away from Shrewsbury and incorporated
in 1786. In the late 1800s, more than 4,800 acres were taken
for the creation of Wachusett Resevoir.
