INTELLIGENT MUNITIONS SYSTEM
The intelligent choice for the current and future force

The only wide-are top attack solution for maximum target effectiveness
Textron Systems' Intelligent Munitions System (IMS) provides the Objective Force with a rapidly emplaced means to dominate unmanned terrain, deny enemy freedom, and assure the mobility of friendly forces. IMS is a revolutionary networked system that combines detailed sensor intelligence with a precision munitions to engage and destroy vehicles from light-wheeled through heavy-tracked, as well as enemy personnel. It is based on the battle-proven Sensor Fuzed Weapon technology that was successfully deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedome.

How it Works
IMS consists of a manned Control Station and one or more Dispense Modules. Dispense Modules contain Sensor Nodes, Lethal Anti-Vehicle/Anti-Personnel Effects Modules and C2 Nodes. The C2 Node receives and processes multiple sensor reports to provide Situational Awareness to the operator. When an engagement is executed, the C2 Node issues launch commands to the Effects Modules based on the latest target movement data.

1

The Dispense Module (DM) can be hand-emplaced by two men. Each DM contains three effects modules, three sensor nodes and a C2 Node. On command, the DM uses a gas generator to dispense the nodes creating the desired ground pattern.

2

The Sensor Nodes use powerful signal processing to analyze the acoustic, seismic and magnetic signatures of targets and estimate the target type, bearing and direction of movement. This data is then sent to the C2 Node for further analysis.

3

The C2 Node, once deployed from the DM, establishes communication with the Sensor Nodes and Effects Modules, and makes contact with its Control Station. The C2 Node aggregates the reports from the Sensor Nodes and calculates accurate target location using triangulation and other algorithms. The information on the target(s) is sent to the Control Station. When enabled to initiate an attack, the C2 Node will use its latest information to direct the Effects Modules to launch at designated times.

4

The self-righting Effects Modules are controlled by the local C2 Node. Each Effects Module can vertically launch a single Skeet for either an anti-vehicle (AV) top attack or anti-personnel (AP) grenade effect.

5

Once launched, the smart Skeet submunition,, with its dual mode infra-red sensor, searches for vehicles. When its on-board algorithm is satisfied, it detonates an explosive to create an Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP) surrounded by sixteen smaller well formed fragments to penetrate the top armor of combat vehicles, missile launchers and trucks.

6

When the smart Skeet is detonated shortly after launch, its scored sidewalls produce hundreds of steel fragments that blast horizontally, creating a lethal fragmentation grenade effect.
